A long silk bolster cushion in chartreuse, woven from a Mid-Shōwa Maru Obi of the highest status. Across the surface, oversized golden fans shimmer and overlap, their pleated forms catching the light. Bold in colour, generous in scale. The reverse is hammered chantilly satin, a warm creamy neutral with a quietly metallic finish.

The fan (Ōgi) is an enduring auspicious motif in Japanese design, its widening form a symbol of growth, prosperity and unfolding good fortune. Each one radiates across the chartreuse silk in pale gold thread, an elegant celebration of what is still to come.

Packaging is fully recyclable, with materials chosen to reduce environmental impact wherever possible.

Your vintage silk piece is made from delicate materials and should be handled with care:

• Do not machine wash or tumble dry

What does the Fan symbol on this piece mean?

Ōgi / Sensu (扇)

The fan symbolises growth, prosperity and unfolding good fortune.

Its widening form, opening gracefully outward from a narrow base, represents expansion and a future filled with possibility, making the fan an enduring auspicious motif in Japanese design.

Associated with court culture, dance and ceremony, fans also evoke elegance, refinement and celebration.

The maru obi (丸帯, "round sash") sits at the very top of the obi hierarchy, the most prestigious, the most coveted, and today the most rare. Reserved for the grandest occasions, it was the mark of exceptional taste and status.

This piece is made from a maru obi, among the finest silk textiles the Japanese weaving tradition ever produced.
